But Doeg(A) the Edomite, who was standing with Saul’s officials, said, “I saw the son of Jesse come to Ahimelek son of Ahitub(B) at Nob.(C) 10 Ahimelek inquired(D) of the Lord for him; he also gave him provisions(E) and the sword(F) of Goliath the Philistine.”

11 Then the king sent for the priest Ahimelek son of Ahitub and all the men of his family, who were the priests at Nob, and they all came to the king. 12 Saul said, “Listen now, son of Ahitub.”

“Yes, my lord,” he answered.

David and the six hundred men(A) with him came to the Besor Valley, where some stayed behind. 10 Two hundred of them were too exhausted(B) to cross the valley, but David and the other four hundred continued the pursuit.

11 They found an Egyptian in a field and brought him to David. They gave him water to drink and food to eat— 12 part of a cake of pressed figs and two cakes of raisins. He ate and was revived,(C) for he had not eaten any food or drunk any water for three days and three nights.
